Statement on the attack at CSD 2026

We are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident on Saturday evening in the vicinity of Christopher Street Day in Berlin. Our thoughts are with the injured, their loved ones and families. We wish the injured a speedy and full recovery and thank all the emergency and rescue services for their efforts.

Berliner Unterwelten e.V. explores Berlin’s underground history – its bunkers, tunnels and protective structures, which bear witness to the upheavals of the 20th century. These places serve as a reminder that openness, equality and freedom of expression were not always a given in this city’s history, but were instead suppressed, persecuted or met with violence.

Our commitment to history shapes our stance: we stand for a city in which people can live on an equal footing and without fear, regardless of their background, faith, sexual orientation or opinion. There is no place for hatred and violence in this city.

These values form the foundation of our work as an organisation dedicated to shaping historical understanding – in our guided tours, in our public relations work and in the way we treat one another.
